Sergeant

Sergeant treats a song the way you'd cut an unruly film — splice, paste, reassemble until it spins somewhere unexpected. The Belgian trio, filmmaker-composer Benjamin Cools, actor Ferre Marnef and vocalist Geraldine Vanspauwen, plays Cinetol on Tolstraat, swapping postpunk's angularity for krautrock's drive mid-set. Cinetol's own numbers hold up the pick — a 4.7 rating across 282 reviews for a room built for exactly this kind of set.
