The best nights to go out in Chicago are Saturday if you want the city full, Friday if you want it full with a shorter line, and Wednesday if you want a weeknight that still has a room in it. The night to skip is Thursday, which is the surprise, and Monday, which is not. Tizy measured it three ways on 2026-10-31 from tizy-db, the venue database behind the app: the Google popular-times curves of 221 revealed Chicago rooms, the posted hours of 280 rooms across the week, and the 151 upcoming nights on its events feed. Saturday is the busiest night for 131 of the 221 rooms. Wednesday is the busiest for 10. Thursday, the night every other city calls its second Friday, is the busiest for 4, fewer than Monday.

That is the short version. The long version sits below as one grid, then a night-by-night read with real rooms, their real Google ratings and review counts, and their posted closes. Every figure traces to a row in the database. None of it comes from a forum thread, which is what page one of Google currently offers for this question, between two Tripadvisor directories and a late-bars listicle that never says which night to use them.

Saturday is the night, and it is not close

Take every revealed, active Chicago room with a Google popular-times curve, 221 of them from River North to Chatham, and ask each one which night of the week its curve peaks. Then take the 280 rooms with posted Google hours and count, for each night, how many clubs are open and how many rooms of any kind post a close past 2 AM. Then take the feed, 151 upcoming Chicago listings from tonight to the end of November, all of them from Resident Advisor, and group by the weekday they start. Put the three side by side.

Read the Saturday row. More than half the rooms in the city peak on it, the average room runs at 92 on Google's hundred-point scale at its busiest hour, and at midnight the average Chicago room is still at 49, which is louder than any weeknight gets at its peak. All 13 clubs with posted hours are open. Twenty rooms post a 5 AM close and three more a 4 AM, the only night the city's late license stretches to five. The feed carries 77 listings, 51 percent of everything on it. If you only get one night in Chicago, this is the one, and the data does not even pretend otherwise.

Friday is the same shape at four-fifths the volume. Fifty-four rooms peak on it, the average room at midnight is 41, every club is open, 21 rooms post a 4 AM close. Of the 220 rooms with both curves, 150 are louder on Saturday than Friday and 70 are louder on Friday. Those 70 are worth knowing about. Garcia's Chicago at 1001 W Washington Blvd, the only club in the city rated 4.7, across 179 reviews, peaks on a Friday and closes at 11:30 PM. President's Lounge at 653 E 75th St, a 4.3 across 216 in the $10–20 band, peaks on a Friday and is open seven days to 2 AM, 3 on Saturday. The Friday rooms are the rooms with a weeknight crowd that happens to end the week there. The Saturday rooms are the rooms built for Saturday.

Wednesday is Chicago's best weeknight, and Thursday is the trap

Every nightlife guide to every city tells you Thursday is the local night, the night before the tourists, the night the industry goes out. In Chicago the curves say no. Four of 221 rooms are busiest on a Thursday. Ten are busiest on a Wednesday, nine on a Tuesday, six on a Monday. Thursday's average peak, 53.6, is the second-lowest of the week, ahead of Monday only. Wednesday's, 57.6, is the highest weeknight figure, above Sunday. Measure it a different way: 45 rooms reach at least 80 percent of their Saturday peak on a Wednesday, and 38 do on a Thursday.

The reason is in the hours, not the crowd. Thursday is a night the city opens for and Wednesday is a night the city fills. On a Thursday only 10 of 280 rooms post Closed, seven clubs are open, and 14 rooms run to 4 AM, including three doors on one block of Division Street: The Lodge Tavern at 21 W, a 4.5 across 443, Hopsmith Chicago at 15 W, a 4.2 across 1,092, and She-nannigans at 16 W, a 4.0 across 539. So the rooms are there. Nobody is in them yet. The average Thursday room sits at 19 at midnight against 41 on Friday. A Thursday 4 AM close in this city is a licensing fact, not a forecast.

Wednesday is where the weeknight crowd actually goes. Flight Club Chicago at 111 W Wacker Dr, a 4.6 across 1,863, is busiest on a Wednesday, peaking at 6 PM. Aba at 302 N Green St in the West Loop, a 4.8 across 8,890 and the most-reviewed room in the $50–100 band, peaks on a Wednesday at 7. Parlay Lincoln Park at 950 W Wrightwood Ave, a 4.7 across 522, peaks on a Wednesday too, as do Fado Irish Pub at 100 W Grand Ave, a 4.5 across 2,479, and Monk's Pub at 205 W Lake St, a 4.5 across 2,619. Six clubs are open on a Wednesday, the same count as Sunday, and Masada Nightclub at 2206 N California Ave, a 4.0 across 723, posts an 8 PM to 2 AM Wednesday that is its earliest open of the week. The feed agrees in miniature: seven Wednesday listings against nine on Thursday, but on 25 November, Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday alone carries five, including two house nights at Le Nocturne Chicago at 4810 N Broadway, a 4.1 across 214, and a $20 night at smartbar at 3730 N Clark St, a 3.9 across 538.

The single Thursday room worth the name is District Brew Yards at 417 N Ashland Ave, a 4.6 across 1,545 and the only room with over a hundred reviews whose busiest night is a Thursday. It peaks at 7 PM. That is a brewpub at dinner, not a night out, and it is the best Thursday has.

Monday and Tuesday are bar nights with the blues rooms dark

Monday is the one night the city partly shuts. Eighty-seven of 280 rooms post Closed, 31 percent, and 10 of 13 clubs are among them. The three clubs that stay open are President's Lounge on 75th Street, Hydrate Nightclub at 3458 N Halsted St, a 3.8 across 309 with an 8 PM to 2 AM Monday, and Surreal Nightlife & Bottle Service Chicago at 1700 W Cortland St, a 4.6 across 130, which posts Open 24 hours all week and is a bottle-service booking desk rather than a door. The feed has nothing on a Monday. Zero of 151.

What Monday closes is the famous part. Kingston Mines at 2548 N Halsted, a 4.7 across 3,758, is dark on Monday and Tuesday. So is Buddy Guy's Legends, a 4.6 across 3,585, and Blue Chicago at 536 N Clark, a 4.7 across 1,745, and House of Blues Chicago, a 4.5 across 8,877, and Martyrs' at 3855 N Lincoln Ave, a 4.7 across 766, and Winter's Jazz Club, a 4.6 across 842. The live-music rooms that sell Chicago to visitors take the same two nights off. Dearly Beloved at 900 N Franklin St, a 4.6 across 616 in the $50–100 band, is closed both nights too.

What stays open on a Monday is the better half of the bar list, and that is the point. Old Town Ale House at 219 W North Ave, a 4.6 across 857, posts 3 PM to 4 AM on a Monday. Delilah's at 2771 N Lincoln Ave, a 4.7 across 1,154, runs to 2. Map Room at 1949 N Hoyne Ave, a 4.6 across 1,012, opens at 7:30 AM and closes at 2. Long Room Chicago at 1612 W Irving Park Rd, a 4.7 across 739, The Hi-Lo at 1110 N California Ave, a 4.7 across 315, Marty's Martini Bar at 1477 W Winnemac Ave, a 4.7 across 494, and Sparrow at 12 W Elm St, a 4.6 across 786, all post a 2 AM Monday. The Embassy at 1435 W Taylor St, a 4.9 across 316 and the best-rated room with over a hundred reviews west of the river, runs to 1:30. Eleven rooms hold the 4 AM on a Monday. The average Monday room at midnight is 17, the same as Sunday, and the rooms that peak on a Monday are rooms with a reason: Small Bar at 2956 N Albany Ave, a 4.5 across 755, peaks at 10 PM on a Monday, and so does The Empty Bottle at 1035 N Western Ave, a 4.7 across 1,566, a live-music room that is busier on Monday night than on any other night of its week.

Tuesday opens more doors, 220 of 280, but only two clubs, and the feed has three listings in a month, one of them a John Summit arena show at United Center, a 4.7 across 23,922, on 24 November, which is a concert with a Chicago address rather than a night out. The Tuesday rooms are Gallery Cabaret at 2020 N Oakley Ave, a 4.6 across 437 in the $10–20 band, busiest on a Tuesday at 8 PM, and The Other Side Bar at 2434 N Clark St, a 4.6 across 234, busiest on a Tuesday at 7. Both are neighborhood bars that happen to own a weeknight. Neither is a reason to fly in.

Sunday is the cheap night and it belongs to one room on Clark Street

Sunday is the night the feed discounts. Sixteen listings, five of them free, a 31 percent free share against 6.5 percent on Saturday, and an average door of $9.62 on the 13 priced nights against $16.67 on Saturday. Seven of the 16 are at revealed rooms, and five of those seven are the same party: Queen! at smartbar, with Derrick Carter on the bill, at $15 every Sunday from 8 November to the end of the month, with tomorrow's All-Building Hallo-Queen at $25 as the Halloween edition. smartbar posts a 10 PM to 4 AM Sunday, one of six clubs open that night, and it is the room that makes Chicago a Sunday city on the feed in the same way it made Wrigleyville an events ZIP in the Chicago nightlife neighborhoods piece.

Off the feed, Sunday is a late bar night with the same 14 rooms past 2 AM as Thursday, among them Hydrate with a 2 PM to 4 AM Sunday and Old Town Ale House, The Lodge Tavern and Hopsmith on their usual 4. The rooms that peak on a Sunday are a short list and an honest one: Parlay River North at 112 W Hubbard St, a 4.5 across 689 in the $50–100 band, peaks at 10 PM on a Sunday, which is a sports bar on an NFL night. BASSLINE at 2239 S Michigan Ave, a 4.2 across 782, peaks at 11 PM on a Sunday. Forty-eight rooms reach 80 percent of their Saturday level on a Sunday, more than do on a Thursday, because Sunday in this city is a daytime night that starts at brunch and is still at 33 on the average curve at 10 PM.

The rooms you pay most for are the Saturday-only rooms

Here is the number that should change what you book. Sort the revealed Chicago rooms with a Google rating into Google's numeric price bands and average the ratings. Every step up buys a better-rated room, until the top.

Price bandRooms (n)Avg ratingAvg reviews
$10–20584.49505
$20–30984.51896
$30–50154.56913
$50–100114.611,818
$100+74.402,913

The $50–100 tier has no room under 4.5. Aba is a 4.8 across 8,890, Dearly Beloved a 4.6 across 616, The Purple Pig a 4.6 across 7,271, The Franklin Room a 4.6 across 1,094, Parlay River North a 4.5 across 689. The $100+ tier runs from 4.6 down to 3.9, the widest spread of any band, and the 3.9 is The Mine Chicago at 1431 W Lake St, across 1,313 reviews, the city's marquee bottle-service club. The Mine posts Closed Sunday through Thursday, a 9 PM to 4 AM Friday and a 10 PM to 5 AM Saturday. Spybar at 646 N Franklin St, a 3.8 across 465, is the same two nights. Le Nocturne, Stereo Nightclub at 5616 W Diversey Ave, a 4.2 across 680, and Seven Nightclub at 3124 N Central Ave, a 4.0 across 381, are Friday and Saturday only too. Five of the city's 13 clubs with hours exist for 48 hours a week, and they are the rooms where the door, the table minimum and the rating all go the wrong way at once. The Aviary at 955 W Fulton Market, a 4.3 across 1,453 in the $100+ band, is the exception that proves it: a cocktail bar, open weeknights, and still the second-lowest rating in its tier.

Paying up in Chicago buys a safer room until about a hundred dollars a head, and past that the bet gets worse, not better. The $100+ tier is the Saturday tier, the Friday-and-Saturday-only clubs with a 3.9 at the bottom of it, and the $50–100 rooms that out-rate it are open on a Wednesday. The expensive night out in this city is the one with the shortest week.

This is also why Wednesday wins the weeknights. The rooms that are busiest on a Wednesday, Aba, Flight Club, Parlay Lincoln Park, Fado, Monk's, sit in the $20 to $100 bands where the ratings are best. The rooms that only exist on Friday and Saturday sit in the band where the ratings are worst. A weeknight in Chicago filters the city down to the rooms that can hold a crowd without a promoter, and those are the rooms with the better reviews.

Pick the night by what you want from it

A rule of thumb from the grid. If you want the full city, Saturday, and get into the club by 11 because the average room is at 76 by 10 PM and the 5 AM rooms are the 20 that will still be moving at 3. If you want the full city with a door that moves, Friday, where 21 rooms run to 4 and the feed has 39 nights at a $20 median. If you want a weeknight with people in it, Wednesday, in the $20 to $100 bars, not the clubs. If you want the blues rooms, Wednesday through Sunday, because Kingston Mines, Buddy Guy's, Blue Chicago and Martyrs' all take Monday and Tuesday off. If you want it cheap, Sunday, where a third of the listings are free and the one that is not is $15 at smartbar. If you want it quiet and good, Monday, at Delilah's, Map Room, the Hi-Lo or Old Town Ale House, which does not know it is a Monday and closes at 4.

Tonight is the Saturday the whole grid points at, and it is Halloween. Seven revealed rooms have a night on the feed: Le Nocturne's house day party at $15 from 4 PM, Park West at 322 W Armitage Ave, a 4.5 across 1,296, at $15, The Hideout at 1354 W Wabansia Ave, a 4.6 across 1,076, at $20, Beat Kitchen at 2100 W Belmont Ave, a 4.5 across 1,247, with a dark 80s new wave night at $20, smartbar at $20 and Metro upstairs, a 4.5 across 2,751, at $25, and Spybar at $30, the top of tonight's door among the revealed rooms. The feed's unplaced listings run to $40 on Division Street, so the posted number is a floor.

Three honest limits. A popular-times curve is Google's average of past weeks, so it knows that Wednesday beats Thursday on aggregate and does not know whether this particular Thursday has a Bulls game two blocks away. Posted hours are what a room told Google, last scraped in March, and the 4 AM rooms are the rooms with a late license, not necessarily the rooms with a crowd at 3:30. The feed is one source, Resident Advisor, 54 of its 151 listings name a venue the database cannot place, and it sees house and techno rooms and not the blues bar on Halsted that sells out a Friday without ever listing it. That last gap is the one Tizy exists for. A 4.7 across 3,758 does not know it is a wet Wednesday in November, and a curve that peaks at 92 on Saturday does not know the main room emptied at 1:30 tonight. The rooms that stream through Tizy have a microphone in them, so when the grid and the night disagree, open the room in the app and listen for thirty seconds before you pay the cover.

Start with the Chicago nightlife hub for every revealed room ranked in one read, then clubs in Chicago for the 13 that make up the Saturday column, bars in Chicago for the rooms that make up the Monday one, and the Chicago nightlife guide for the late-license count this grid extends. For the same night-by-night cut in cities where the answer comes out differently, the best nights to go out in Barcelona piece finds a Tuesday that charges everyone, and the best nights to go out in New York piece finds a city that does not take a weeknight off. Or skip the reading and open Chicago in Tizy to hear which night it is right now. NIGHTS NEVER END, and in Chicago the best of them is a Saturday with a Wednesday for backup.

FAQ

What is the best night to go out in Chicago?

Saturday, by every instrument Tizy measured. Of 221 revealed Chicago rooms with Google popular-times curves, 131 are busiest on a Saturday, the average room peaks at 92 on Google's hundred-point scale, and it is still at 49 at midnight, higher than any weeknight reaches at its peak. All 13 clubs with posted hours are open, 20 rooms post a 5 AM close, and 77 of the 151 upcoming listings on Tizy's events feed start on a Saturday. Friday is the same shape at about four-fifths the volume.

Is Thursday a good night to go out in Chicago?

Not the way it is in other cities. Only 4 of 221 rooms are busiest on a Thursday, fewer than on a Monday, and the average Thursday room sits at 19 at midnight against 41 on a Friday. The doors are open, seven clubs and 14 rooms running to 4 AM, including The Lodge Tavern, Hopsmith and She-nannigans on Division Street, but the crowd has not arrived yet. If you want a weeknight with people in it, Wednesday has 10 rooms at their busiest, a higher average peak, and the better-rated bars, Flight Club at 4.6 across 1,863 and Aba at 4.8 across 8,890 among them.

What time do most bars close in Chicago?

Two in the morning, Sunday through Friday, under the standard tavern license, and 3 AM on Saturday. Of 280 revealed rooms with posted hours, 124 close at 2 on a Friday and 101 on a Thursday. A smaller set holds a late-hour license: 21 rooms post a 4 AM Friday close, 14 on a Thursday and on a Sunday, 11 on a Monday, and on Saturday 20 rooms run to 5 AM with three more at 4. Old Town Ale House, The Lodge Tavern, Hopsmith, Streeter's Tavern and Alice's Lounge are on the 4 AM list every night of the week.

Is Chicago nightlife good on a Sunday?

Good and cheap, in a narrow way. Sunday has 16 upcoming listings on Tizy's feed with five of them free, a 31 percent free share against 6.5 percent on Saturday, and an average door of $9.62. Most of the booked Sunday is one party, Queen! at smartbar with Derrick Carter at $15, which runs 10 PM to 4 AM. Beyond that, 250 of 280 rooms are open, six clubs among them, 14 rooms run past 2 AM, and the rooms that peak on a Sunday are Parlay River North at 4.5 across 689 and BASSLINE at 4.2 across 782, which tells you it is a sports bar and lounge night rather than a club night.

Are Chicago clubs open on weeknights?

A few. Of the 13 revealed clubs with posted hours, three are open on a Monday, two on a Tuesday, six on a Wednesday and seven on a Thursday, against all 13 on Friday and Saturday. Five, The Mine, Spybar, Le Nocturne, Stereo and Seven, post Closed from Sunday to Thursday. The weeknight clubs are Masada in Logan Square from Wednesday, Celeste in River North from Wednesday with a 5 PM to 4 AM, Hydrate on Halsted every night but Tuesday and Wednesday, President's Lounge in Chatham seven days, and Garcia's in the West Loop Wednesday to Sunday with an 11:30 PM close.

What is there to do in Chicago on a Monday night?

Bars, and the good ones. Eighty-seven of 280 rooms are closed on a Monday including ten of the 13 clubs and the blues rooms, Kingston Mines, Buddy Guy's Legends, Blue Chicago and Martyrs', so a Monday club or blues night is mostly off the table. What is open is the better half of the bar list: Old Town Ale House to 4 AM, Delilah's, Map Room, Long Room, The Hi-Lo, Marty's Martini Bar and Sparrow to 2, The Embassy to 1:30. Small Bar in Avondale and The Empty Bottle in Ukrainian Village are busier on a Monday than on any other night of their week, which is rare and worth knowing.

Which night is the cheapest to go out in Chicago?

Sunday on the feed and Monday in the bars. Sunday's priced listings average $9.62 with five of 16 free; Saturday's average $16.67 with five of 77 free and a $40 top. In the bars, the $10–20 price band holds 58 rooms at an average 4.49, barely below the $20–30 band's 4.51 across 98 rooms, so the cheap rooms in Chicago are not the worse rooms. The expensive rooms are: the $100+ band averages 4.40, below every other tier, and five of its rooms are the Friday-and-Saturday-only clubs where the cover is highest and the rating lowest.
