Every Amsterdam nightlife guide tells you where. Rembrandtplein for the big clubs, Leidseplein for the tourist bars, the Red Light District for the canals and the crowds, the Jordaan for a brown café. None of them tells you when, and in this city when is the whole question. Amsterdam is a small town that goes out hard on three nights and barely at all on two. Of the 974 upcoming listed events on Tizy's Amsterdam feed, 287 fall on a Friday. Seven fall on a Tuesday. Monday carries 13, with not one free listing among them, and Sunday, the night every other city uses to sleep, carries 101, five times what Monday and Tuesday carry put together. Every figure in this piece is measured 2026-10-08 from tizy-db, the live venue and events database behind Tizy, and every room named is a real listing with its real Google rating and review count.
So the short version of this guide is a calendar, not a map. Go out Thursday, Friday or Saturday and the city is open: 190, 287 and 267 listed events across 124, 146 and 136 venues, and not a single one of the 51 rated bars and clubs Tizy has revealed in Amsterdam posts a closed sign on a Friday or Saturday. Go out Sunday or Wednesday and you still get a hundred-plus listings and most of the rooms. Go out Tuesday and you get four venues, a techno night at a concert hall and twenty closed doors. Pick the night first. The square can wait.
Amsterdam's week has a dead night, and it is not Monday
Take every listed event on the feed with a start time in the future, drop the cancelled ones, and group by the day of the week it starts. Then take the 51 revealed, rated bars and clubs in tizy-db, 50 of which post opening hours, and count how many post "Closed" on each day. This is the shape of the week.
| Amsterdam, next 30 days | Listed events | Distinct venues | Free listings | Rated bars and clubs posting "Closed" (of 50) | Clubs posting "Closed" (of 15) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 13 | 8 | 0 | 22 | 10 |
| Tuesday | 7 | 4 | 6 | 20 | 9 |
| Wednesday | 109 | 80 | 17 | 8 | 7 |
| Thursday | 190 | 124 | 32 | 2 | 2 |
| Friday | 287 | 146 | 38 | 0 | 0 |
| Saturday | 267 | 136 | 27 | 0 | 0 |
| Sunday | 101 | 80 | 12 | 11 | 6 |
Two things fall out of the table that no listicle on page one knows. The first is that Tuesday is the floor, not Monday. Monday has thirteen listings, Tuesday has seven, and four of Tuesday's seven are the same free techno night repeating at the same concert hall, Melkweg's Techno Tuesday, one of them carrying its own cancellation in its title. Strip that and Tuesday is a €10 club night at John Doe plus two free café meetups during ADE week. Four distinct venues. On a Friday there are 146.
The second is that Sunday is a real night, and it does not look like the other six. Of Sunday's 101 listings, 64 start before 6 PM and only 19 start after 10 PM. Friday is the reverse: 119 of its 287 start after 10 PM. Sunday in Amsterdam is a daytime calendar, club matinees and afternoon sessions, and it ends early, which is why eleven of the fifty rooms with hours take the night off. The city does not stop on a Sunday. It starts at two in the afternoon and is in bed by one.
The doors agree with the calendar. Twenty-two of the fifty rated rooms with posted hours are closed on a Monday and twenty on a Tuesday, against eight on a Wednesday and two on a Thursday. The clubs are the worst of it. Of the fifteen clubs with hours, ten are dark on Monday and nine on Tuesday: Club Church, Bitterzoet, Chin Chin Club, Panama, Club NYX, Lovelee, Bon Ton, Eagle and Shelter all post "Closed" on both, and Oliva on Rembrandtplein opens Tuesday but not Monday. The bars are kinder. Twelve of thirty-five close Monday, eleven close Tuesday, and only one, Bar Buka in De Pijp, is shut on a Wednesday.
The clubs that stay open all week are on two squares, and they split in half
Five clubs in Amsterdam post hours seven nights a week, and they are a study in the city's rating gap. Two are on Rembrandtplein and are the best-rated clubs in the city. Three are a ten-minute walk away around Leidseplein and are among the worst.
Escape at Rembrandtplein 11 is a 4.6 across 12,306 reviews, the most-reviewed nightlife room in Amsterdam by a distance, in Google's $$ band, 11 PM to 4 AM Sunday through Thursday and 5 AM on Friday and Saturday. Club Prime at Rembrandtplein 22 is a 4.6 across 3,087, doors at 8 PM every night, 3 AM midweek and 5 AM at the weekend, in the €10–20 band. Between them they hold 15,393 of the 27,887 reviews written about the city's sixteen clubs, and they are the two rooms you can walk into on a Tuesday without checking anything.
The other three all-week rooms sit on the Leidsedwarsstraat side streets and on Reguliersdwarsstraat. El Punto Latino on Lange Leidsedwarsstraat is a 3.8 across 897, 10 PM to 4 AM every night and 5 AM on Friday and Saturday. Club Candela on Korte Leidsedwarsstraat is a 3.6 across 481, in the $$ band, 11 PM to 4 AM Sunday to Wednesday and 5 AM from Thursday. Bar Exit at Reguliersdwarsstraat 42 is the city's one room Google tags "gay night club", a 3.7 across 384, €20–30, a 4 AM close through the week and 3 PM to 5 AM at the weekend. The all-week clubs average 4.6 on the square and 3.7 off it.
The postcode tells the same story at scale. Nine of Amsterdam's sixteen clubs sit in 1017, the postcode that covers Rembrandtplein, Reguliersdwarsstraat and the Leidseplein side streets, and the eleven rated bars and clubs in that postcode average 4.01. The nineteen in 1012, the Centrum and Red Light District core, average 4.38, and seventeen of those nineteen are bars. If the plan is a club, 1017 is where the clubs are. If the plan is a good room, the data points north across the Amstel.
The best-rated clubs in Amsterdam close on the nights the calendar is thinnest
Behind the two Rembrandtplein rooms, the clubs that rate above 4.0 all keep part-time hours, and they take the same nights off the events feed does.
Club Church on Kerkstraat is the best-rated room Google tags plain "club", a 4.4 across 917, open Wednesday 8 PM to 1 AM, Thursday 10 PM to 4 AM, Friday and Saturday 10 PM to 5 AM, and a Sunday 4 to 8 PM slot that is its own thing. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Warehouse Elementenstraat in Westpoort is a 4.3 across 356, $$, and posts no hours at all, because it opens on event nights; it is the fourth most event-listed revealed club on the feed with seven upcoming listings. Bon Ton on Stadhouderskade is a strip club Google files under "night club", a 4.3 across 227, Wednesday to Saturday 9 PM to 5 AM, and the listing identifies as women-owned. Bitterzoet on Spuistraat is a 4.2 across 1,574 and the strictest clock in the city: Thursday, Friday and Saturday only, 11:30 PM to 4 AM, closed the other four nights. Eagle on Warmoesstraat is a 4.1 across 286, Thursday to Sunday from 10 PM.
So on a Tuesday the clubs above 4.0 that are open number exactly two, Escape and Club Prime, and on a Wednesday they number four, with Club Church and Bon Ton joining them. That is the practical reading of the table: the midweek deficit is not that nothing is open, it is that the good rooms are not.
The rooms the events feed loves are the rooms Google rates lowest
Join the events feed to the venue database and a second gap opens up. The three revealed clubs with the most upcoming listings are Shelter under the A'DAM tower in Noord with sixteen, Panama on the Oostelijke Handelskade with eleven, and Club NYX on Reguliersdwarsstraat with nine. All three are a 3.6 on Google, across 787, 2,314 and 1,644 reviews. Escape, the 4.6, has six listings. Club Prime, the other 4.6, has one.
This is not a contradiction. It is two instruments measuring different nights. The events feed is Resident Advisor-listed by construction, which means it counts programmed electronic nights with a lineup, and the rooms that run those are warehouses and docks built for the 2 AM crowd, not for the person who walks in at eleven and leaves a review about the bar queue. Shelter posts hours only from Friday 11 PM through to 7 AM Sunday morning, the latest close in the city by two hours. Panama is Friday and Saturday, 11 PM to 5 AM, and nothing else. Both are dark on a Thursday, the only two rated rooms in Amsterdam that are. They are built for twelve hours a week and they are listed accordingly.
The reading for a visitor is simple. If the lineup is the reason, the feed is the better guide and the rating is noise. If the room is the reason, the rating is the better guide and the feed is noise. Amsterdam is unusual in how far apart the two run.
If you have one spontaneous weeknight in Amsterdam, do not spend it on a Tuesday. The city has four venues listed, twenty rated rooms shut and two clubs above 4.0 open. Take Sunday afternoon or Wednesday instead, where the calendar is a hundred deep and the doors are mostly unlocked. Tuesday is for the brown cafés, which is not a consolation prize.
The bars are the all-week scene, and the brown cafés carry the midweek
If the clubs take Monday and Tuesday off, the bars do not, and the ones that stay open are the ones the city is actually known for. Of the 35 revealed, rated bars in tizy-db, 24 post hours on a Tuesday, and the beer rooms and brown cafés are almost all among them.
Proeflokaal Arendsnest on the Herengracht is a 4.7 across 4,531, the second most-reviewed bar in Amsterdam, noon to midnight seven days and 1 AM on Friday and Saturday, €10–20. In de Wildeman on Kolksteeg, the beer tasting room, is a 4.7 across 2,376 on the same hours, closed Sunday. Hoppe on the Spui is a 4.4 across 2,158, open from 9 AM every day, 1 AM close and 2 AM at the weekend. De Sluyswacht by the Rembrandthuis is a 4.4 across 1,855, noon to midnight midweek, 2 AM on Friday and Saturday, and 8 PM on a Sunday. Café Chris on Bloemstraat in the Jordaan is a 4.7 across 1,154, noon to midnight or 1 AM every day of the week. Waterkant on Marnixstraat, the most-reviewed bar in the city at 4,622, is a 4.4 open from 11 AM every day, 1 AM close and 3 AM on Friday and Saturday. Not one of those six closes on a Monday or a Tuesday.
The best-rated bars, by contrast, keep club hours. Backstage Bar on Oudezijds Armsteeg is the top-rated bar in Amsterdam, a 4.9 across 522 in Google's cheapest band, €1–10, and it is closed Monday and Tuesday. Café De Dokter on Rozenboomsteeg, a 4.8 across 541, is Wednesday to Saturday only. Bar Buka on Albert Cuypstraat in De Pijp, a 4.8 across 266, is Thursday to Sunday. De Heeren van Aemstel on Thorbeckeplein, a 4.6 across 2,691, opens Wednesday through Saturday and runs to 5 AM on Friday and Saturday, the latest close of any bar in the city, matched only by San Francisco Bar & Club on the Zeedijk, a 4.0 across 397. Maloe Melo on Lijnbaansgracht, the blues bar, a 4.5 across 562, is Wednesday to Saturday, 9 PM to 3 or 4 AM. Of the six bars rated 4.8 or better, four are closed on a Monday.
The cocktail tier is where the ratings peak and the clock is shortest. The sixteen revealed rooms Google tags "cocktail bar" average 4.81 across 7,661 reviews. Plan No.3 on Oostenburgergracht is a 5.0 across 317, €10–20, Tuesday to Saturday, 3 AM on Friday and Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday. CIMA Rooftop Bar on Hekelveld is a 4.9 across 374, Wednesday to Sunday, midnight close at the latest. Rosalia's Menagerie on Kloveniersburgwal is a 4.8 across 1,220 in the $$$ band, open seven nights to 12:30 AM. Bar Oldenhof on Elandsgracht, 4.8 across 913, $$$, 1 AM midweek and 2 AM at the weekend. Bar Mokum on Ferdinand Bolstraat, 4.8 across 872, midnight midweek and 2 AM at the weekend. Super Lyan on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, 4.7 across 592, €20–30, is closed Monday and Tuesday. Bar TwentySeven on the Dam is the only $$$$ room in the city, a 4.7 across 502, noon to 1 AM and 3 AM at the weekend. Five of the sixteen cocktail bars are shut on a Tuesday.
What a night actually costs, by the day you pick
Amsterdam's venues post Google price bands in two formats, euro ranges and dollar signs, and eight of the 51 bars and clubs post none, all of them clubs, so a clean average by band does not exist and this guide will not fake one. What the data does support is the ticket price on the events feed, by weekday, and the posted bands at the door.
On the feed, the priced listings run from €1 to €85. Wednesday has the widest range, €1 to €85 across 63 priced events, and the most free ones outside the weekend, 17. Thursday runs €7.50 to €69.56 across 96 priced events with 32 free. Friday is €1 to €74.50 across 133 priced with 38 free; Saturday €1 to €79.50 across 132 priced with 27 free. Sunday runs €8 to €80 across 42 priced events and 12 free. Monday's seven priced listings run €8.50 to €30.49, and the ones that repeat weekly are a €10 hard techno night at John Doe and an €8.50 Cheeky Monday at Melkweg. Tuesday has one priced event, €10, and six free ones. Citywide, 132 of the 974 listings are free, 13.6 percent, and the free share is highest exactly where the calendar is thinnest.
At the door, the bars are a €10–20 city. Twenty-seven of the 35 rated bars post that band or cheaper, with Backstage Bar and De Kroon Bar on Oudebrugsteeg (a 4.2 across 441) the two in €1–10. The exceptions are the hotel and rooftop rooms: Freddy's Bar on Nieuwe Doelenstraat (4.6 across 612), LuminAir on the eleventh floor above Oosterdoksstraat (4.4 across 2,745) and SKYY Bar in Oud-West (4.1 across 228) post $$$, Pulitzer's Bar on the Prinsengracht (4.5 across 720) and Dakterras GAPP (4.3 across 381) post €20–30, and The Chupitos Club on Korte Leidsedwarsstraat, the shot bar, posts €30–40 and a 4.0 across 739. On the club side the posted bands are thinner: Escape $$, Club Prime €10–20, Warehouse $$, Candela $$, Chin Chin $$, Eagle €10–20, Shelter and Bar Exit €20–30, and the other eight post nothing.
The practical cost rule is the same as the calendar rule. The expensive nights are the deep ones, Friday and Saturday, where a €70-plus ticket exists and the 5 AM rooms are open. The cheap nights are Tuesday and Sunday, one because almost nothing is on and the other because most of what is on starts in the afternoon.
Things to do in Amsterdam at night when it is Tuesday anyway
Sometimes the flight lands on a Monday and the Tuesday is the night you have. The city has not closed, it has narrowed, and the narrowing is specific.
The clubs open on a Tuesday are Escape and Club Prime on Rembrandtplein, Oliva at Rembrandtplein 17 (a 3.7 across 897, 11 PM to 4 AM), and El Punto Latino, Club Candela and Bar Exit around Leidseplein. That is six of sixteen, and the two worth the walk are the two 4.6s on the square. The bars open on a Tuesday are two-thirds of the list, and the best of them that night are the beer rooms: Arendsnest, In de Wildeman, Hoppe, Café Chris, Waterkant, Het Elfde Gebod at Zeedijk 5 (a 4.6 across 979, 4 PM to 1 AM) and Barney's Uptown on Haarlemmerstraat (4.6 across 1,774). The cocktail bars open Tuesday include Rosalia's Menagerie, Bar Oldenhof, Bar Mokum, Bar TwentySeven, Plan No.3 and Dutch Courage on the Zeedijk (4.7 across 861, 5 PM to 1 AM).
For the live-music question that two of the Tripadvisor threads on page one are asking, the honest answer from the database is that the "live music" tag is an attribute, not a schedule, and this guide will not promise a band on a given night. What it can say is that Maloe Melo, the blues room, is closed Monday and Tuesday, and that the four revealed rooms Google tags "live music venue" carry 27 reviews between them, too few to rate.
A rating is a verdict on every Friday that already happened. It does not know that this is a Tuesday in October with four venues on the feed, or whether Escape's floor has filled by one. Where a room streams live on Tizy, tap it and hear it before you cross the Amstel for it. On a Tuesday in Amsterdam, that one tap is most of the guide.
Pick the night, then pick the room
- Friday or Saturday, a club with a real sample: Escape (4.6 across 12,306, to 5 AM) or Club Prime (4.6 across 3,087, to 5 AM) on Rembrandtplein, or Club Church (4.4 across 917, to 5 AM) on Kerkstraat.
- Friday or Saturday, the lineup over the rating: Shelter in Noord (sixteen listings, through to 7 AM), Panama on the docks (eleven listings, to 5 AM) or Warehouse Elementenstraat (seven listings, event nights only). Know that all three rate 3.6 to 4.3 and go for the booking, not the bar.
- Thursday: 190 listings across 124 venues and only two rated rooms closed. Bitterzoet opens for the first time in its week, Club Church goes to 4 AM, Maloe Melo to 3 AM.
- Sunday: go in the afternoon. 64 of the 101 listings start before 6 PM. Club Church runs 4 to 8 PM, Shelter is open from midnight to 7 AM, and Backstage Bar (4.9), Cafe the Barrel (4.8 across 381) and Het Elfde Gebod are all open. Café De Dokter, In de Wildeman and De Heeren van Aemstel are not.
- Wednesday: the quiet night that is not. 109 listings, eight rooms shut, Club Church from 8 PM, Bon Ton to 5 AM, Club NYX from 9 PM.
- Monday or Tuesday: Escape and Club Prime for a club, Arendsnest, Hoppe, Café Chris or Waterkant for a bar, Rosalia's Menagerie or Bar Oldenhof for a cocktail. Everything with a 4.8 and a Thursday-to-Saturday schedule is closed, and it is not personal.

FAQ
What are the do's and don'ts for a night out in Amsterdam?
Do pick the night before the room. Of the 51 rated bars and clubs Tizy has revealed in Amsterdam, 22 post "Closed" on a Monday and 20 on a Tuesday, against none on a Friday or Saturday, and the events feed drops from 287 listings on a Friday to seven on a Tuesday. Do arrive before one at the Rembrandtplein clubs, which run to 4 or 5 AM but fill late. Don't assume Sunday is dead: it carries 101 listings, most of them starting before 6 PM. The legal drinking age is 18, and the rooms check.
Is the Red Light District the best area for nightlife in Amsterdam?
For bars, yes by volume. The 1012 postcode, which covers the Red Light District canals and the Centrum core, holds 19 of the city's 51 rated bars and clubs, and seventeen of those are bars, averaging 4.38 across the postcode. For clubs, no: only two of the sixteen clubs, Bitterzoet on Spuistraat and Eagle on Warmoesstraat, sit in 1012, while nine sit in 1017 around Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein. The best-rated bar in the city, Backstage Bar at 4.9, and six of the eight lowest-rated bars are both inside 1012, so read the rating beside the name.
What do the three X's in Amsterdam mean?
They are the three St Andrew's crosses from the city's coat of arms, which is why they are on the bollards, the flag and half the souvenir shops. They have nothing to do with the Red Light District, whatever the T-shirts imply. For a night out, the only X that matters is the one on the calendar: Tuesday, with seven listed events and four venues on the feed.
Which area of Amsterdam has the best nightlife?
It depends on whether the plan is a club or a room. Nine of Amsterdam's sixteen rated clubs are in the 1017 postcode around Rembrandtplein, Reguliersdwarsstraat and the Leidseplein side streets, but the eleven rated rooms there average 4.01, the lowest of any cluster in the city. The 1012 Centrum and Red Light District core averages 4.38 across 19 rooms and is almost all bars. The two best-rated clubs, Escape and Club Prime at 4.6, are both on Rembrandtplein, and the best-rated cocktail bars with a real sample, Plan No.3 at 5.0 across 317 and CIMA at 4.9 across 374, are on the eastern islands and on Hekelveld.
What time do clubs in Amsterdam close?
Four or five in the morning on a weekend, and earlier or not at all midweek. Escape, Club Prime, Club Church, Chin Chin Club, Oliva, Panama, Club NYX, El Punto Latino, Club Candela, Lovelee, Bar Exit and Bon Ton all post a 5 AM close on Friday and Saturday. Shelter in Noord posts the latest hours in the city, Friday night through to 7 AM on Sunday. Midweek, Escape and the Leidseplein rooms close at 4 AM, Club Prime at 3 AM, and nine of the fifteen clubs with hours are closed outright on a Tuesday.
Is Amsterdam nightlife good?
By the ratings, the bars are very good and the clubs are not. The 35 revealed rated bars average 4.45 across 42,271 reviews and the sixteen revealed cocktail bars average 4.81. The sixteen clubs average 3.96 across 27,887 reviews, with nine of them under 4.0 and none above 4.6. The two that break the pattern, Escape and Club Prime, are the two most-reviewed clubs in the city and both post hours seven nights a week. If the plan is a bar, almost any night works. If the plan is a club, pick Friday or Saturday and pick the square.
What is the best night to go out in Amsterdam?
Friday, by every measure in the database. It has 287 listed events across 146 venues, 38 of them free, 119 starting after 10 PM, and every one of the 50 rated rooms with posted hours is open. Saturday is a close second at 267 across 136. The surprise is Sunday, with 101 listings across 80 venues, nearly as many as Wednesday's 109, most of them afternoon starts. The night to avoid for anything spontaneous is Tuesday: seven listings at four venues, and twenty rated rooms closed.
