The best nights to go out in Amsterdam this year have dates, not days: Wednesday 21 October through Saturday 24 October, the four club nights of Amsterdam Dance Event. On those four nights the city is not just busy for itself. Of the 399 cities that carry an upcoming listed event on Tizy's feed, Amsterdam ranks first in the world on a Wednesday, with 112 listings against Barcelona's 63, and first on a Thursday, with 186 against London's 104. Then the week ends and the ranking collapses. Strip the seven days of ADE week out of the same 30-day window and Amsterdam's three remaining Wednesdays hold nine listings between them, eleventh place, and its three remaining Thursdays hold thirteen, fourteenth. Every figure in this piece is measured 2026-10-10 from tizy-db, the live venue and events database behind Tizy, and every room named is a real listing with its real Google rating and review count.
So the short version, if the question is which night to book: if you can make ADE week, make it, and go out Wednesday, because no other city on the feed has a Wednesday like it. If you cannot, the honest answer for the other 48 weeks comes from the floors rather than the calendar. Across the 63 revealed Amsterdam bars and clubs that publish a Google popular-times curve, the clubs run at 94.7 on a Saturday night, 91.3 on a Friday, 72.4 on a Thursday and 19.0 on a Monday, on a scale where 100 is each room's own busiest hour of the week. Saturday on the square, Thursday for the quieter version of it, and Tuesday for a brown café. The famous Amsterdam midweek is one week long.
Amsterdam leads the world midweek, and the reason is one week in October
Take every listed event on the feed with a start time in the future, drop the cancelled ones, group by the day of the week it starts, and rank Amsterdam's count for each weekday against every other city's count for the same weekday. The pool changes by day, because 356 cities have at least one Saturday listing and only 76 have a Monday one, so the rank is shown with its pool.
| Weekday | Amsterdam listings | Rank, all feed cities | Day's leader (or runner-up where Amsterdam leads) | On ADE week's one date | Amsterdam without ADE week | Rank without ADE week |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 14 | #7 of 76 | Tokyo 41 | 3 | 11 | #9 |
| Tuesday | 10 | #8 of 78 | Berlin 42 | 4 | 6 | #9 |
| Wednesday | 112 | #1 of 95 | runner-up Barcelona 63 | 103 | 9 | #11 |
| Thursday | 186 | #1 of 142 | runner-up London 104 | 173 | 13 | #14 |
| Friday | 263 | #2 of 262 | London 301 | 213 | 50 | #9 |
| Saturday | 279 | #3 of 356 | London 451, Berlin 329 | 185 | 94 | #10 |
| Sunday | 107 | #3 of 214 | New York 322, Los Angeles 111 | 98 | 9 | #39 |
| All seven | 971 | #2 of 399 | London 976 | 779 | 192 | — |
Read the two right-hand columns first. The window runs from 10 October to 9 November, and 779 of Amsterdam's 971 listings, eighty percent, sit inside the seven days from 19 to 25 October. Wednesday 21 October alone carries 103 of the 112 Wednesday listings. Thursday 22 October carries 173 of the 186. The other three Wednesdays in the window carry three, four and two listings. The other three Thursdays carry four, five and four. That is the whole story of the table: Amsterdam is the second most-listed city on the entire feed, two listings behind London, and it gets there in one week.
It also explains why the lead is a midweek lead. London beats Amsterdam on Friday, 301 to 263, and on Saturday, 451 to 279, even with ADE counted. Berlin's Saturday, 329, beats it too. What no other city has is a programmed Wednesday and Thursday, because ADE is built as a conference by day and a festival by night, and it opens on a Wednesday. Barcelona's best Wednesday on the feed is 63 listings. Amsterdam's is 112, of which 103 are the same date. Twenty-eight of the Wednesday listings start before 6 PM, record-store sessions and label showcases and a charity fundraiser at a café on Rembrandtplein, and 40 start after 10 PM.
This is a claim about Tizy's feed, which lists what promoters list, not a claim about how many people are out on a given night. The feed is Resident Advisor-weighted by construction, which means it counts programmed electronic nights with a lineup. A brown café with no lineup is open every night and never appears in it. Keep that in mind for every number in this section and it will not mislead you.
Saturday owns the floor in every week that is not ADE
The calendar says Wednesday. The floors say Saturday, and the floors do not know what month it is. Google's popular-times data scores each hour of each day from 0 to 100 against a room's own busiest hour of the week. Of the 114 revealed, rated bars and clubs in tizy-db for Amsterdam, 63 publish a curve, seven of them clubs and 56 bars. Score each room's night as its peak between 8 PM and 3 AM the following morning, then average by room type.
| Night | Clubs, avg night peak (7 rooms) | Bars, avg night peak (56 rooms) | Rooms whose busiest night this is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 19.0 | 42.3 | 1 (VIC's BAR) |
| Tuesday | 24.7 | 52.1 | 2 (Wijnbar Rijp, Route 66) |
| Wednesday | 43.0 | 53.3 | 2 (Cafe the Barrel, The All Out) |
| Thursday | 72.4 | 65.4 | 2 (Bar Exit, Ferment Wine & Coffee) |
| Friday | 91.3 | 85.6 | 22 |
| Saturday | 94.7 | 89.6 | 34 |
| Sunday | 30.1 | 46.9 | 0 |
The seven clubs with a curve all do their best night on a Saturday except two. Escape at Rembrandtplein 11, a 4.6 across 12,306 reviews and the most-reviewed nightlife room in the city, is at 100 on Saturday, 93 on Friday, 56 on Thursday and 34 on Wednesday. Club Prime at Rembrandtplein 22, a 4.6 across 3,087, is a Saturday 100, a Friday 82, a Thursday 56. Club Church on Kerkstraat, the best-rated room Google tags plain "club" at 4.4 across 917, is a Saturday 100, a Friday 92 and a Thursday 79, and posts "Closed" on Monday. Chin Chin Club on the Rozengracht, a 3.7 across 1,456, runs 100 Saturday, 96 Friday and 77 Thursday, with nothing on Monday, Tuesday or Sunday because it is shut; it also posts "Closed" on a Wednesday while carrying a Wednesday 63 on the curve, and one of those two is stale. El Punto Latino on the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat, 3.8 across 897, is a Saturday 100 and a Sunday 52, one of only two clubs whose Sunday clears 50. The two exceptions are Bar Exit at Reguliersdwarsstraat 42, the city's one "gay night club" listing at 3.7 across 384, which peaks on a Thursday at 100, and Eagle on the Warmoesstraat, 4.1 across 286, which peaks on a Friday.
Not one of the 63 rooms has its busiest night on a Sunday. Thirty-four have it on a Saturday and 22 on a Friday, which leaves seven rooms in the whole city whose week peaks Monday to Thursday, and six of them are bars. The Wednesday rooms are Cafe the Barrel on the Jonge Roelensteeg, a 4.8 across 381 in the €10–20 band, at 100 on a Wednesday against 68 on a Friday, and The All Out on the Europaboulevard, a karaoke bar at 4.7 across 344, at 91. The Thursday bar is Ferment Wine & Coffee on the Van Hallstraat, 4.7 across 63. The Tuesday rooms are a wine bar in Oost with ten reviews and a smoke-and-drink on the Enge Kerksteeg at 4.0. VIC's BAR on the Damrak, 4.4 across 211, is the one room in Amsterdam whose busiest night is a Monday, at 94.
So Amsterdam has two different best nights depending on which instrument you trust. On the feed it is Wednesday, in one week of the year. On the floor it is Saturday, every week of the year, by three points over Friday for the clubs and four for the bars.
Wednesday and Thursday in Amsterdam are a ticket, not a walk-in
What the two instruments agree on is that a midweek night in Amsterdam is a booking. The club floors sit at 43 on a Wednesday and 72 on a Thursday. The Wednesday calendar, in ADE week, has 112 listings across 80 venue names. The way to have the best Wednesday in Europe is to hold a ticket to one of them, and the way to have a bad one is to walk up to Rembrandtplein at eleven and expect Saturday.
The midweek calendar is also narrower than its count suggests. The venue names that carry Amsterdam's upcoming Wednesday listings are Melkweg with eight, John Doe with four, nachbar, Kadinsky Cafe, GASHOUDER and Cinetol with three each. The Thursday list is Melkweg with seven, Paradiso with five, John Doe and the 50:Hertz club train with four, then The Loft, Supperclub, Skatecafe, Mediahaven and the Heineken Hoek with three. Two of those are rooms Tizy has revealed with a rating: Paradiso on the Weteringschans, the converted church, a 4.6 across 11,766, the second most-reviewed nightlife room in the city, and Cinetol on the Tolstraat in De Pijp, a 4.7 across 282. Melkweg, Paradiso and John Doe between them hold 14 of the 112 Wednesday listings and 16 of the 186 Thursday ones. The rest is ADE's one-off map of record stores, hotel bars, a crane and a boat.
The price does not move midweek. The average minimum ticket on the feed is €26.03 on a Wednesday, €25.89 on a Thursday, €22.56 on a Friday and €23.04 on a Saturday. Eighteen of the Wednesday listings are free and 31 of the Thursday ones, against 35 on Friday and 29 on Saturday. The cheap midweek is a Monday or Tuesday thing, and it is cheap because almost nothing is on: Tuesday's one priced listing is €10 and six of its ten are free.
Amsterdam's reputation as a city that goes out on a Wednesday is one week old every year. Outside ADE the next three Wednesdays on the feed hold nine listings between them and the club floors are at 43. If you want the midweek version of this city, come on 21 October. If you cannot, Saturday on the square is the honest answer and Thursday is the quiet one, and neither of them needs a lineup to work.
The doors back this up. Of the 104 revealed, rated bars and clubs that post Google opening hours, seven of the fifteen clubs are closed on a Wednesday: Bitterzoet on the Spuistraat (4.2 across 1,574), Eagle, Chin Chin Club, Oliva at Rembrandtplein 17 (3.7 across 897), Panama on the Oostelijke Handelskade (3.6 across 2,314), Shelter under the A'DAM tower (3.6 across 787) and Lovelee on the Lijnbaansgracht (3.5 across 274). Only five of the 89 bars are. Thursday is when the city opens: two clubs shut, Panama and Shelter, and no bars at all. The clubs that run on a Wednesday are Escape and Club Prime on the square, Club Church from 8 PM, Bon Ton, Club NYX, El Punto Latino, Bar Exit, Candela and Warehouse Elementenstraat on event nights.
Monday and Tuesday are the only nights Amsterdam is ordinary
On every other night Amsterdam is in the world's top three on the feed. On Monday it is seventh of 76 cities, with 14 listings to Tokyo's 41, and on Tuesday eighth of 78, with ten to Berlin's 42. Take ADE week out and both nights drop to ninth, behind Tokyo, Barcelona, New York and Berlin, cities that keep a Monday calendar the way Amsterdam keeps a Saturday one. The two rooms that carry Amsterdam's Monday and Tuesday listings are John Doe, with seven across the two nights, and Melkweg with six, then Cinetol with three and The Loft with two. Everything else is a single date.
The floors are flatter still. The clubs average 19.0 on a Monday and 24.7 on a Tuesday, and the two square rooms that stay open all week are at 20 and 27 on a Monday. Ten of the fifteen clubs with hours post "Closed" on a Monday and nine on a Tuesday, and 29 of the 89 bars close Monday, 22 Tuesday. That is 39 rooms shut on a Monday against one on a Friday and one on a Saturday.
The rooms that do a real Monday are bars, and they are the old ones. Café Chris on the Bloemstraat in the Jordaan, a 4.7 across 1,154, runs 84 on a Monday, 81 on a Wednesday and 84 on a Sunday against a Saturday 100, the flattest week of any well-reviewed room in the city. Barney's Uptown on the Haarlemmerstraat, 4.6 across 1,774, is at 74 on a Monday and 87 on a Sunday. De Kroon Bar on the Oudebrugsteeg, 4.2 across 441 in the €1–10 band, is at 96 on a Monday, four points off its Friday. Cafe Gollem Amstelstraat, the beer café at 4.7 across 1,401, runs a Tuesday 87, level with its Friday. Freddy's Bar on the Nieuwe Doelenstraat, a hotel bar at 4.6 across 612 in the $$$ band, is at 71 Monday and 75 Tuesday. Bar TwentySeven on the Dam, the city's one $$$$ room at 4.7 across 502, runs 57 and 75. Krux Brouwwerf on the Cruquiusweg, a brewpub at 4.7 across 384, is closed Monday and at 79 on a Tuesday. BigShots Bar on the Warmoesstraat, 4.6 across 1,640, is at 79 on a Tuesday too.
The pattern is the same one the Amsterdam nightlife guide found from the posted hours: the rooms rated 4.8 and above keep Thursday-to-Saturday schedules, and the rooms that are open on a Monday are the ones with a thousand reviews and a 4.4. Backstage Bar on the Oudezijds Armsteeg, the best-rated bar in Amsterdam at 4.9 across 522, is closed Monday and Tuesday and peaks on a Friday at 100. Café De Dokter on the Rozenboomsteeg, 4.8 across 541, is closed Monday and Tuesday and runs a Thursday 85 that beats its Friday 80, behind only its Saturday. On a Monday in Amsterdam you choose between a 4.7 that is open and a 4.9 that is not, and it is not a hard choice.
Sunday has a world ranking and no floor
Sunday is the strangest line in the table. Amsterdam's 107 Sunday listings rank third of 214 cities, behind only New York's 322 and Los Angeles's 111, and 98 of the 107 are on 25 October, the last day of ADE. The nine that remain for the other three Sundays rank 39th. Sixty-seven of the 107 start before 6 PM and 19 after 10 PM. It is a daytime calendar, closing parties and matinees, and the floors confirm it: no room in the city has its busiest night on a Sunday, the clubs average 30.1, and six of the fifteen clubs with hours post "Closed", with twelve of the 89 bars.
The Sunday rooms are the Monday rooms. Barney's Uptown at 87, Café Chris at 84, De Kroon at 83, VIC's BAR at 89, Bar The Tailor on the Dam, a cocktail bar at 4.6 across 615 in the $$$ band, at 78. Proeflokaal Arendsnest on the Herengracht, the beer tasting room at 4.7 across 4,531, is at 64 on a Sunday, which is better than its Tuesday. Of the clubs, El Punto Latino at 52 and Bar Exit at 67 are the only Sunday floors above 35. De Heeren van Aemstel on Thorbeckeplein, 4.6 across 2,691, the bar with the latest weekend close in the city, is shut Sunday and Monday both.
What a listing and a curve cannot tell you
The feed window is 30 days and this one happens to hold ADE, which is the reason this piece can say Amsterdam leads the world on a Wednesday and the reason it should not be read as a fact about November. The same measurement taken in December would show a Wednesday of single digits. The per-day counts above are from 10 October, and the leaders' counts drift by a listing or two each day the feed refreshes; Berlin's Saturday measured 329 today and 330 the day the angle was first pulled.
The curves are Google's as scraped, averages of every Saturday that already happened, and 48 of the 114 revealed rooms do not publish one (three more that do are concert halls and are left out of the bar-or-club typing), among them Bitterzoet, Panama, Shelter, Oliva and Lovelee on the club side and the two best-rated cocktail bars with a real sample, Plan No.3 on the Oostenburgergracht (5.0 across 317) and CIMA Rooftop Bar on the Hekelveld (4.9 across 374). Their best night is unknown here, not quiet. A curve also does not know that this Saturday is the one where the square is rained out or Escape has a private booking. Where a room streams live on Tizy, tap it and hear the floor before you cross the Amstel for it. On an ordinary Wednesday in Amsterdam, with three or four listings on the feed and the clubs at 43, that one tap is most of the guide.
Pick the night by what you want from it
- The best Wednesday on any feed, anywhere: 21 October, ADE. 112 listings across 80 venues, 103 of them that date, Melkweg with eight and John Doe with four. Hold a ticket. The club floors will still read 43, because the night is at the listed room, not the walk-in one.
- The best Thursday: 22 October for the same reason, 173 listings on the date, Paradiso with five. In any other week, Thursday is the quiet club night: floors at 72, every bar open, only Panama and Shelter dark, Club Church at 79 and Café De Dokter at 85, its best weeknight.
- The fullest rooms, no ticket: Saturday. Clubs at 94.7, bars at 89.6, 34 rooms at their weekly peak, Escape and Club Prime at 100. Friday is three points behind and 22 rooms peak on it, Backstage Bar, Rosalia's Menagerie and Duke of Tokyo among them.
- A listed party outside ADE: still Friday or Saturday. Without ADE week the feed holds 50 Fridays and 94 Saturdays, ninth and tenth in the world, against nine listings spread over three Wednesdays.
- A bar with room in it: Monday or Tuesday. Café Chris at 84, De Kroon at 96, Barney's Uptown at 74, Cafe Gollem at 87 on a Tuesday. Thirty-nine rooms are shut on a Monday and most of the 4.8s are among them.
- A club on a Monday: Escape or Club Prime, at 20 and 27 on the curves. That is the list.
- Sunday: go in the afternoon, like 67 of the 107 listings do, and finish at Barney's or Café Chris. No room in Amsterdam peaks on a Sunday night.
Start with the Amsterdam nightlife hub for the full city read, then clubs in Amsterdam for all the revealed clubs with hours, rating and price band, or bars in Amsterdam for the rooms that are open when the clubs are not. The Amsterdam nightlife neighborhoods piece answers where rather than when, and finds the good rooms two tram stops out. For the same weekday grid in cities whose midweek is not one week long, the best nights to go out in Berlin piece counts a calendar that lists 135 nights Monday to Wednesday, and the best nights to go out in Dubai piece reads a city whose clubs never close. Or skip the reading and open Amsterdam in Tizy to hear which square is alive right now. NIGHTS NEVER END, and in Amsterdam, for one week in October, neither do the Wednesdays.
FAQ
What is the best night to go out in Amsterdam?
Saturday, on the floors, and ADE Wednesday, on the calendar. Across the 63 revealed Amsterdam bars and clubs that publish a Google popular-times curve, the clubs average 94.7 on a Saturday night on a scale where 100 is each room's own busiest hour of the week, against 91.3 on a Friday and 72.4 on a Thursday, and 34 of the 63 rooms peak on a Saturday. On Tizy's events feed Amsterdam ranks first of all 399 listed cities on a Wednesday and a Thursday, but 103 of its 112 Wednesday listings and 173 of its 186 Thursday ones fall on 21 and 22 October, the opening nights of Amsterdam Dance Event, and the other three Wednesdays in the window hold nine between them.
Is Amsterdam busier on Friday or Saturday?
Saturday, by every measure in the database. The clubs average 94.7 on Saturday against 91.3 on Friday on the popular-times curves, the bars 89.6 against 85.6, and 34 rooms peak on Saturday against 22 on Friday, with Escape, Club Prime, Club Church, Chin Chin Club and El Punto Latino all hitting their weekly 100 on it. The feed agrees for once, 279 upcoming Saturday listings against 263 on Friday, 117 of the Saturdays starting after 10 PM. The Friday rooms are mostly bars, Backstage Bar, Rosalia's Menagerie, Bar Oldenhof and Duke of Tokyo among them, plus Eagle on the Warmoesstraat.
Is Amsterdam good for a night out on a weekday?
On a Thursday, yes; on a Wednesday, only with a ticket; on a Monday or Tuesday, for a bar. Thursday is the night the city opens: no bars post "Closed", only Panama and Shelter among the clubs do, and the club floors run at 72.4, nine tenths of Friday. Wednesday's club floors sit at 43.0 and seven of the fifteen clubs with hours are shut, so the Wednesday that works is the listed one, Melkweg, Paradiso, John Doe or Cinetol, and in ADE week there are 112 of them. Monday and Tuesday are the two nights Amsterdam is an ordinary city on the feed, seventh and eighth in the world, with 39 and 31 rooms closed.
Are clubs in Amsterdam open on a Monday or Tuesday?
Five of the fifteen clubs with posted hours are open on a Monday and six on a Tuesday, and only two of them are worth planning around. Escape at Rembrandtplein 11 and Club Prime at Rembrandtplein 22, both 4.6 on Google, post hours seven nights a week; their Monday floors read 20 and 27 on the curves and their Tuesday ones 32 and 34. El Punto Latino, Club Candela and Bar Exit around Leidseplein are open too, all under 4.0. Club Church, Bitterzoet, Chin Chin Club, Panama, Club NYX, Shelter, Lovelee, Eagle and Bon Ton all post "Closed" on both nights, and Oliva opens Tuesday but not Monday.
What is there to do in Amsterdam on a Sunday night?
Not much after dark, and a lot before it. Sixty-seven of the 107 upcoming Sunday listings start before 6 PM and only 19 after 10 PM, and 98 of the 107 are on 25 October, the last day of ADE. No room in the city has its busiest night on a Sunday, the clubs average 30.1 on the curves, and six clubs and twelve bars post "Closed". The rooms that carry a Sunday are the all-week cafés: VIC's BAR on the Damrak at 89, Barney's Uptown at 87, Café Chris at 84, De Kroon Bar at 83 and Bar The Tailor on the Dam at 78. Club Church runs a 4 to 8 PM Sunday slot and Shelter stays open from Saturday night through to 7 AM.
What is the nightlife like in Amsterdam?
A bar city with two good clubs and one extraordinary week. The 114 revealed, rated bars and clubs in tizy-db average well above 4.4 on the bar side and around 4.0 on the club side, and the two clubs that break the pattern, Escape and Club Prime, are the two most-reviewed in the city and the only ones open every night. The city's week is Saturday-shaped on the floors and ADE-shaped on the calendar: 779 of its 971 upcoming listed events fall in the seven days around 21 to 25 October, and without them Amsterdam ranks between ninth and fourteenth in the world on every night of the week. The Amsterdam nightlife guide has the full read on hours and the neighborhoods piece has the map.
What time do clubs in Amsterdam close on a weeknight?
Three or four in the morning on the square and not at all elsewhere, because most of the others are shut. Escape posts 11 PM to 4 AM Sunday through Thursday and 5 AM on Friday and Saturday; Club Prime closes at 3 AM midweek and 5 AM at the weekend; El Punto Latino and Club Candela on the Leidseplein side streets run to 4 AM Sunday to Wednesday, and Candela to 5 AM from Thursday. Club Church runs Wednesday 8 PM to 1 AM and Thursday 10 PM to 4 AM, and Bon Ton on the Stadhouderskade runs Wednesday to Saturday to 5 AM. Panama and Shelter post no hours at all before Friday, and Bitterzoet and Chin Chin Club none before Thursday, which on a Tuesday is the same thing as closing at nine.
